Born in Riudoms, Spain Gaudi studied at the School of Architecture in Barcelona and became the most famous exponent of Catalan Modernisme - a branch of the Art Nouveau movement.  His ornate church of the Holy Family 8in Barcelona occupied him from 1884 until his death.
