Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood c1848-1900 The Pre Raphaelites were a group of young artists who were unhappy with the style of art being taught at important arts schools like the Royal Academy, - teaching which followed the traditions of Raphael's style which made everything look perfect. They admired the art from before Raphael and began to sign their art with the initial PRB - the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood, using subjects from the Bible, and Shakespeare, and painting with bright colors over white backgrounds. This made their paintings look fresher than other Victorian art which was usually painted on brown backgrounds.
