BAROQUE MUSICIANS

Florence and Venice had dominated the art world during the Renaissance but Rome became the artistic centre in the Baroque Period. Baroque style appeared in Europe in the late 1500's - the word baroque comes from the Portuguese word meaning "irregularly shaped pearl" - and was used in art to describe something which was different from Renaissance Art - ornately decorated, dynamic and filled with emotion. Music of the Baroque era reflected these same ideals.
