1890-1977

American artist Man Ray was born Emmanuel Radinski, but changed his name following persecution because of his Russian-Jewish heritage. Mainly remembered for his fashion and portrait photography (see Photographers) he worked as a designer by day and studied art at night in New York moving to Paris in 1921. He had a profound impact on modern art particularly in photography..
