    THE WORLD's GREAT PHOTOGRAPHERS

French photographer Cartier-Bresson's was born on august 22 1908 in Chanteloup-en-Brie, France and was one of the first photographers to use the smaller 35mm format.   He developed the street photography style that influenced later generations of photographers -  his work has come to be regarded as one of the seminal visions of the 20th century. He studied painting for many years and then began to photograph with a Leica around 1930.
Commissions from Harper's Bazaar and Vu in 1932 started Cartier-Bresson in photojournalism. He also studied film technique working with Strand in the US and Jean Renoir in France. His many travels in Europe, Asia and the Americas resulted in scores of magazine articles and more than a dozen books. His photographs were exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1946 and 1948. A major retrospective was held at the Musee d'Art Modern in Paris in 1980
He died on august 3, 2004 in Cereste France.
