noel counihan 1913-1986


Noel Counihan was born in Melbourne in 1913 and studied with Charles Wheeler at the National Gallery Art School, in Melbourne.
He became a confirmed atheist and communist and in 1931 helped establish the Workers Art Guild, producing linocuts and lithographs for their pamphlets and magazine covers.
Later he worked as a cartoonist for various publications, and painted in oils.
He died in Melbourne on 5 July 1986, aged 73.
