Freida Kahlo's life was plagued with accidents and illness and her self-portraits focused on her intense experiences and troubled inner states of mind. She was married to the great Mexican Muralist Diego Rivera. Her style derived from traditional Spanish-American art  A Movie Frida was made about her in 2002.
