MARCEL BREUER
1902-1981

"Shall we attempt to condense the central issue facing architecture today into one sentence?
Colour which you can see with ears: sound to see with eyes: the void you touch with your elbows: the taste of space on your tongue: the fragrance of dimensions: the juice of stone."
Contemporary Architects 1980

Marcel Breuer was born in Hungary.   Architect and designer he was a student at the Bauhaus in Germany from 1920 taking charge of the furniture workshop in 1924. He probably designed the first tubular steel chair. In 1937 he joined Walter Gropius as the associate professor of architecture at Harvard, then worked independently .
Notable works include the UNESCO building in Paris with Bernard Zehrfuss and Pier Luigi Nervi
