WILLIAM BLAKE
1757-1827

 

Born in London he studied at the Royal Academy School producing engraved illustrations for magazines and watercolors. Poet, painter, engraver his finest work is in th4e 21 Illustrations to the Book of Job.
Across the road from North Lambeth tube is a plaque making the home of William Blake, and he is
represented on the brick walls of the railway bridge running over Centaur Street.  Southbank Mosaics
have replicated several of his artworks.

The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Tate Britain and the British Council present 'William Blake and British Visionary Art'.
The exhibition introduced the art heritage of the English poet and artist William Blake (1757--1827), alongside works by such British masters of 19th -- 20th century art as Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Edward Coley Burne-Jones, Samuel Palmer, Aubrey Vincent Beardsley, Henry Fuseli, Francis Bacon and Cecil Collins, to a Moscow audience.
