Emmanuel Phillips Fox
Born in Fitzroy, Melbourne on 12 march 1865 he studied at Melbourne's National Gallery School, Academie Julian Paris, and Ecole des Beaux-Aarts Paris. After working in Europe, mainly in Paris, Australian artist E.Phillips Fox set up an Art School in Melbourne as an alternative to the more academic National Gallery School. Influenced by Whistler several of his paintings show striking resemblance to portraits by Whistler.He died in Melbourne on 8 october 1915
